Joyless blogging...

...or "The PRESSURE of a Blog"! Any other newbie out there feeling tremendous pressure to be witty and humorous, or at least extremely insightful and intelligent (not to mention well-read), in your blog posts? It's quite intimidating! And it's the primary reason I haven't posted more. I've been sitting around trying to come up with something interesting, entertaining and/or worthwhile to say!

Forget that. Come what may, I'm just gonna start posting periodically (which would be the whole point, wouldn't it?).

BUT...I will say that I can tend to be better at responding than initiating. So, how about some of you readers come up with interesting and/or amusing topics to discuss and we'll go at it? An advice column of sorts, perhaps. Why not? I'm all ears and witty/intelligent (though maybe not always well-read)/sensitive/wise/amusing responses.

One, two, three...go!

I resonate with your statements on the pressure of coming up with interesting posts. But I say, go the Seinfeld route and just tell us about the mundane parts of your life. That can be interesting in and of itself. I have plenty of stories on you that would merit excellent blogs. But some things remain best unsaid on a public journaling device.

I share your fears. I can never think of anything to write.
(Okay, I had real trouble keeping a straight face there!)
Try this, just to get you going:
Make a little chart, with a line for each day of the week -- or, say, just Mon-Fri. Then, next to each day, write an idea for a post. For instance, on "Monday" you might have "Personal story," on "Tuesday" maybe "Theological Musings," on Wednesday "Share a favorite poem/ talk about a cool book," and so on.
Now, there's no need to stick to that, but at least it will get you going and give you more ideas. That's what I've done anyway, though the only column I've stuck to on a consistent day so far has been my Tuesday song lyric reviews. I still refer to the chart though, just so I can see "Oh, I haven't done a spoof on 'Bobby answers the mail' in a while."

Bobby, you're so methodical! It works for you, though. Thanks for the suggestion. I still think it'd be fun to have a "Dear Lorie" column, though!

Oh...and yeah, Jessica, now that you mention it, I think you're right. Some things ARE better left unsaid on a public journaling device. Or in any type of public forum, for that matter.

Yeah there are many days where I don't feel like posting, sometimes I go months, and now to add to the fun I have three different blogs for three different reasons.

One more faith, one for photography, and one for no holds barred. Pretty much newby or not the Blog is whatever you want to make it out to be. No rules it's all about you...all about Lorie!

Besides I think it would be fun to read a dear Lorie column hahha.

But really blogs have become very thereputical in most cases and allows people to express themselves without being corrected or told incorrectly for having those feelings. It gives one control over the comments if you choose not to hear them.

Its a great way to be creative as well. In fact, now I can post from home again, late night when I have too many thoughts racing I start wrting to one of the blogs and things start to make sense some.

Basically do not fear the blog, newbie or not, there is plenty of places you can take it and make it.

Post what feels right to you, personal or spiritual, or whatever your heart desires. Its fun easy and friendly and is a tool of the internet. A wonderful tool that has so many uses.

If you cant write anything then don't. Don't feel obligated to-do so even if everyone around you is getting a blog :) Or sometimes just get on there and start rambling, you could be amazed at how it could turn out.

Speaking of rambling.....end transmission......

And don't use your blog as an excuse to avoid songwriting, you potentially wonderful lyricist, you!
Just because you wrote something in your blog doesn't mean you've done your bit of writing for the day.
Oh ... I found this in my blog mailbag -- someone meant to send it to you but they accidentally sent it to me -- imagine that. You can use it to start your Dear Lorie column:

Dear Lorie:

Well hello, little girl. I am a Creepy Old Man. Lately, I've been having this dream where I chase innocent bystanders down a darkened street, eager to steal their shoes. In one dream, I stole your shoes. But you weren't upset. You said it gave you the perfect opportunity to go shopping again.
What do you think this dream means?

Sincerely,
Uncle Geoffrey Becket

Bobby: The "Dear Lorie" letter fits Lorie perfectly. Nice.

You could share with us your responses to stuff you read or hear elsewhere. That's pretty much what I'm doing with my blog, Throne Room Revelations (How's that for a shameless plug?)
