Just one more thing...

So I heard this Sara Groves song for the first time today, on a cd that a friend gave me. It struck me as so poignant, given my current rate of living and what I've observed around me. It made me think of all the relationships in my life---God, family, church community, friends, acquaintances, coworkers. How important is that apparently oh-so-important next thing when, in the end, relationships will be all I have to show for?

Just One More Thing

There's always just one more thing
There's always another task
There's always 'I just have one more small favor to ask'
And everything is urgent and everything is now
I wonder what would really happen if I stopped somehow

I'll be there in a minute
Just a few places to go
You wake up a few years later and your kids are grown
And everything is important
But everything is not
At the end of your life your relationships are all you've got

And love to me is when you put down that one more thing and say
I've got something better to do
And love to me is when you walk out on that one more thing and say
Nothing will come between me and you
Not even one more thing

There will never be an end to
The request upon your time
It's your place to stand up and tell the world
You've got to rest awhile
And everything is important
But everything is not
At the end of your life your relationships are all you've got

And love to me is when you put down that one more thing and say
I've got something better to do
And love to me is when you walk out on that one more thing and say
Nothing will come between me and you
Not even one more thing

Yeah, that is a beautiful song on a record of beautiful songs. And so poignant.

That reminds me...this morning my co-workers, of the male persuasion, asked me if I was going to get off work early today so I could to check out the truck show. They teasingly remarked, "Yeah, there are a bunch of available men there." I replied, "I want a man who will be total hypnotized by me not by some truck." I know this is somewhat of a shallow thought compared to what Sara Groves is referring to.

Bobby, mi amigo, What is up with that hat!?!

Good for you, Christa! Good comeback.

The hat was stuck on my head by some mocking friends at a party. I reluctantly agreed to pose. As my expression will attest, I was none to pleased at the time, but the picture tickles me now.

incredible lyrics. i can relate to having nothing but relationships, plus never having the chance to stop and smell the roses. i found that stopping is a discipline, and a spritual discipline at that. sometimes being busy is what interferes with our relationship with Christ.

John Ortberg says (in his FABULOUS book "The Life You've Always Wanted"): "Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is take a nap."

I love that.

Huh? The hat's supposed to show me as fearless -- like a bandit. An outlaw. A rogue. A CONQUISTADOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You mean it doesn't do that?
