Love is in the air...

Sorry, friends and family, I've been a little uninspired and a lot busy the last week or so and haven't had the juice to post. But for the sake of keeping you coming back for more, here's a question:

What are some of your favorite cheesy love songs?

You know, the ones that make you go, "Awwwww..." and remind you of that one girl/guy and HOW in love you were/could have been...or the ones that make the tears fall when you're lying in your bed at night listening to Delilah (you know who you are, and I am NOT one of you...any more).

And no embarrassment allowed. This is a safe place. :)

Since it's safe:

I love "Can't Ya Say You Believe In Me" by Boston (also their "Amanda.")
Then of course those great REO songs: "Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore," "Keep On Loving You," "In My Dreams," etc.
Also, Chicago: "You're The Inspiration," of course, and that one that goes "After all that we've been through, I will make it up to you ..."
And "Alone" by Heart, and lots of Air Supply songs, like "Girl you're every woman in the world to me ..." "Even the nights are better, now that we're here together ...."
And "Always A Woman To Me" by Billy Joel. And "Your Song" and "Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues" by Elton John. And LOTS more that I'll think of later!!!!

But really, I just like artsy, indie music. I'm not into any of that sugarpop love song junk ....

John Denver:

"You fill up my senses like a night in the forest,
Like the mountains in Springtime,
Like a walk in the rain.
Like a storm in the desert,
Like the sleepy blue ocean.
You fill up my senses,
Come fill me again."

How perfect of your timing. On my way to work today I was thining aobut that one song......its Peter Cetera the Glory of Love....from the Karate Kid 2.

So Bobby I see that you like it to, except you named it wrong :)

Blogger Bobby said...

It's a totally different song, Dr. Tom. But also a great one ... I mean, it would be great if I liked stupid meaningless mainstream commercial sappy songs.

Also if I liked that kind of crap, I'd tell you that this is sublime:

"I know it's kind of late;
I hope I didn't wake you.
But there's something that I just gotta say;
I hope you understand.
Everytime I've tried to tell you, the words just came out wrong;
So I'll have to say 'I love you' in a song."

I love it! Those are a lot of the songs that I think of too, when I think cheesy, sappy, nostalgic love songs.

There's also the country one, "Please Don't Take the Girl" which, although WAY over-played, is SUCH a sweet song.

1:59 PM
Blogger Tom said...

Bobby: yeah very well could be now that I think about it, it does sound very alike. The parts I loved about it was "take you to my caslte far away" "I will fight for your honor" Those are the ones that really get me on that song. The old days of nighthood and chivalry.

Lorie...that song really does get me, I hope that no one is ever put in that position. Its sad, but shows so much love though it all.

Speaking of country: "Unanswered Prayers," what a song! I mean, for a corny commercial country pop thingy.
And the one Clint Black sings about "Love isn't something that we say, it's something that we do."

Could I have this dance
For the rest of my life?
Would you be my partner
Every night?
When we're together it feels so right;
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?

Mr. Lunt rocks! The Cheeseburger Song is the best Veggie Tales song ever. And that's saying a lot.

So Lorie why the mushy mood lovey dubby question?

10:50 AM
Blogger Bobby said...

Cheryl, the Elton John song is "Your Song," which I mentioned. Great little ditty.

I LOVE "Accidentally In Love" by the Counting Crows. It's the perfect "fun" summer love song. And, let me get slightly out of the corny music camp by referencing a romantic song by the GREAT MR. BOB DYLAN, though the song I will mention was covered by Garth Brooks, so it does fall under the "popular" music definition: "To Make You Feel My Love":

"When the rain is blowing in your face,
And the whole world is on your case,
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love.

When the evening shadows and the stars appear,
And there is no one there to dry your tears,
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love."

Don't you guys feel all warm and fuzzy inside reading these comments?

Or is it just me...? :)

4:41 PM
Blogger Tom said...

Oh yeah also add Journey "Don't stop believing"

Warm n fuzzy huh? I thought you felt all squishy inside? :)

5:01 PM
Blogger Bobby said...

"I'm forever yours ... faithfully!"

SQUISHY! SQUISHY! LORIE FEELS EXTREMELY SQUISHY! SQUISH, SQUISH, SQUISH!

Um, sure. And isn't there a song "Love Bytes", or something like that, by someone? I like that song!

Ponyboy---great blog. The variety and beautiful prose is amazing. :)

yeah she shreads em too

1:56 PM
Blogger Bobby said...

If you knew his mind you'd know the difference between shreads and shreds. And shereads. And she reads.
But then we're getting into Cheryl's mind, too.

It's exhausting.

"Nothing's gonna change my love for you;
You oughtta know by now how much I love you.
One thing you can be sure of,
I'll never ask for more than your love ...."

2:00 PM
Blogger Tom said...

So now you are reciting love lyrics to Lorie? What are you trying to do here bobby? I know love is in the air but...

2:11 PM
Blogger Bobby said...

No, this one's to Lorie:

"If you be my bodyguard, I can be your long lost pal.
And I can call you "Betty,"
And, Betty, if you call me
You can call me "Al."

Now THAT's gotta make a girl get weak in the knees.

And Tom, here's one for you:

"You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you.
You're so vain, you probably
think this song is about you,
Don't you, don't you?"

2:19 PM

Speaking of mice, and whether or not Tom is one (actually, isn't Tom a cat, and Jerry is the mouse?) here's a tender classic from that movie about mouses:

"Somewhere out there, if love will see us through,
Then we'll be together,
Somewhere out there, out where
dreams come true!"

Thank yoy Cheryl, You made me smile today....now Bobby on the other hand?

I love how we have taken over Lorie's blog!!

11:28 AM

The only thing mystical around here is the thought processes of Cheryl and Tom. MOIST and mystical.

"Angel" by Aerosmith. And "Angel Eyes" by Jeff Healey (though I prefer the New Grass Revival version).

And for the country fans, here's a little Alan Jackson:

"If tomorrow I found one more chance to begin,
I'd love you all over again."

Oh yeah Bobby, thanks for telling the radio station to play somewhere out there after you wrote the lyrics on here........it decided to play on the radio when I was going to get coffee....thanks, oh yeah see me after class!!

I am totally a "lovey-dovey" person, but most love songs are soooo dang cheesy to me! Let me think...are there any that I like? Of couse, there are some Patty songs that I love. But well known ones?

Oh! I like "Fly Me to the Moon" and "The Way You Look Tonight" (Harry Connick Jr.'s version).

2:00 AM
Blogger Bobby said...

Of course they're cheesy, Tatom. This is a "guilty pleasures" page. Don't go all highbrow on us -- I saw your comment under "corny music" on the Sojourn website. Tell us about your fascination with 80s power ballads. It's okay. King has declared this to be a safe place.

8:11 AM

And just waht's wrong with 80's power ballads? rock ballads even?

9:50 AM

I, too, like some of the older love songs, like "Smoke Gets in My Eyes" and stuff like that.

And, of course, 80s power ballads. :)

10:05 AM

Nothings wrong with 80's power ballads, Dr. Tom. Just pointing out that the Nikkster does have some sappy, lowbrow tastes in music, as we all do.

I love "Unforgettable."

Sing with me, Dr. Tom.

I am a man who will wear a sombrero;

that fro's and big dogs are what dreams are made of.

Now everyone join in! Repeat chorus!

Remembering the old days riding the bus home in the country south of nashville I recall "what's love got to do with it" from tina turner, and "we are the world" which isnt a love song but it is one for love for others not a romantic song. I have it somewhere on mp3, it's so hard to find these days.

It is kinda odd how something I like when I was in the 2st grade i still like today over 20 years later.

1:29 PM
Blogger Nikki Leigh Daniel said...

I just want this thing to get to 100. Okay, seriously, REAL love songs...I don't swoon over cheesy love songs. The ones that I like are those that I want to listen with my husband someday. And none of those were written in the 80's. Or the 90's. They are all classics. Frank Sinatra, Marvin Gaye, Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Holiday, Miles Davis, John Coltrane...these people sing TRUE love songs. Songs that make it through time barriers. Songs that make you swoon the same as those who first heard it swooned. These songs, my friends, are true love songs.

1:07 AM
Blogger Bobby said...

I agree -- somewhat. There are timeless songs from that era, by those artists. But I don't think the lyrics to many of those songs are necessarily more meaningful than many songs of the 80s and 90s.
I will say that more of them are refreshing and innocent, which is good.
Judy Garland had some great songs back in the day.

well, just for efforts to get the comments to 100, i'll mention "what is love?'" by underground hip hop artist pigeon john. since none of you have probably heard of the song or the artist, the chorus simply goes,

"What is love? And am I in it?
See, I really like this girl, and I think I should
But what I feel, is there something in it?
Cause if not I'm wasting her time, and it's just not good."

well, that is my contribution to the reaching 100 goal.
